Avalanche Skills Training

The AST Level 1 is an introductory avalanche course, offered over two days (or the equivalent). This course follows the AST 1 syllabus developed by the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) and a certificate will be issued at the end of the course. This AST Level 1 course is a prerequisite for more advanced CAC courses (AST Level 2, CRS or professionnal courses). It is offered to skier, snowboarder, snowshoer and ice climber.

Prerequisite: Almost none
Maximum number of students: 8 per instructor

Course content:
  • Formation and nature of avalanches
  • Avalanche terrain
  • Mountain snowpack
  • Group risk management
  • Safety equipment
  • Emergency response
Classroom day will be at the ACC Clubhouse or Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore. The field day will be held in Banff National Park

Price: $185 + tax
Price ACC members: $165 + tax

Includes: Course Manual, Certificate and Avaluator + use of avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel for the weekend
